Health Fair Announcement
Jordan Temple Incredible Life Health Fair
We’re one week away from the Incredible Life Health Fair, which will be held on Sunday, Sept. 15th at 11:30am to 1:30pm, in the Incredible Life building and parking lot. We are ever so thankful for the leaders and volunteers that have organized this event with such persistence and excellence. We extend a very special thank you to the Village of Broadview and the Village of Hillside to partner with us to make this event a blessing to the communities.
We are expecting a host of health care providers and professionals that will share their resources with our church and community. Additionally free gifts and free refreshments will be provided.
The Red Cross will also partner with us by giving our community and churchh an oppurtunity to save lives by hosting a blood drive. The enormity of what the Red Cross accomplishes every day is astounding and this is one of the reasons we chose them as one of our core community outreach partners.
• Over 24,000 people are assisted by the American Red Cross every day.
• More than 13,000 people every day receive lifesaving Red Cross health and safety training.
• Every day, the Red Cross provides more than 1,400 services to military members, their families and veterans.
• About 170 times a day, Red Cross workers help families affected by a home fire or other disaster.
From a blood supply standpoint:
• The Red Cross needs to collect about 12,500 blood donations and more than 2,700 platelet donations each day.
• The blood collected by the Red Cross helps millions of patients in approximately 2,500 hospitals and other facilities across the country.
• 82 percent of blood donations are given at blood drives hosted by generous sponsoring organizations like ours.
• The Red Cross operates about 500 blood drives every day and works hand in hand with hospitals to meet patient needs. Fewer people are donating blood, so first-time donors are especially important to help ensure a stable blood supply in the months ahead.
We specifically chose September because it is Sickle Cell Awareness Month. This is a time to highlight the unique blood needs of individuals living with this genetic disease and how Black communities can help support these patients through blood donation.
· Sickle cell disease is the most common genetic blood disease in the U.S.
· In the U.S., about 100,000 people of various racial and ethnic backgrounds are living with
sickle cell disease, most of whom are of African or Latino descent.
· Sickle cell disease causes red blood cells to be hard and crescent-shaped instead of soft and round. As a result, blood has difficulty flowing smoothly and carrying oxygen to the rest of the body, which may lead to severe pain, tissue and organ damage, acute anemia and even strokes.
A single sickle cell patient can require multiple blood transfusions per year throughout their lifetime to treat complications from sickle cell disease. Blood transfusions from Black donors help to provide a lifesaving treatment for patients during a sickle cell crisis.
To help ALL PATIENTS, we are looking for donors to sign up for the blood drive on Sunday, September 15th at the Health Fair. Then on Sunday Sept. 22, from 12pm to 4pm we and the community will be giving blood in the Incredible Life Center Center.
ALL DONORS WILL RECEIVE A $15 E-GIFT CARD; A $20 AMAZON.COM GIFT CARD BY EMAIL AND A SPECIAL EDITION RED CROSS T-SHIRT!
Eligible blood donors are urged to give at the blood drive to help sickle cell patients. Schedule an appointment to donate by using the free Red Cross Blood Donor App, visiting RedCrossBlood.org, or calling 1-800-RED CROSS.
Thank you for making our Health Fair and Blood Drive program such a success.
